WE ARE TORN CURTAIN ARTS

Torn Curtain is a non-profit organization with a mission to Strengthen the creative Soul of THE LOCAL CHURCH THROUGH WORSHIP LEADING, WORSHIP LEADER COACHING, AND CREATIVE CONSULTING.

In 2006, after serving as a youth pastor at a church in Parker, CO, Paul Romig-Leavitt helped start a new church called The Refuge. Paul had always been active in the dramatic arts, and while serving at this new church God began showing him how he could use this passion to encourage other churches and communities through dramaturgy. As a result, Torn Curtain Arts was born.

For the next 6 years, TCA partnered with over 25 different ministries nationwide, including Dare2Share, Youth Specialties, Warrior Leadership Summit, AWANA, JAMA, and Promise Keepers. In 2011, Paul took a position as Creative Arts Pastor at Restoration Community Church in Denver, shifting his focus to his duties there. Torn Curtain continued to hum away in the background, but Paul’s experience serving at RCC opened his eyes to the challenges that many creatives and worship leaders face in the local church. After seven years, things shifted in his personal theology and philosophy of church culture, and Paul knew it was time for a change.

Around the same time, his good friend and long-time collaborator Brian Davis began experiencing a similar shift in his thinking. After nearly 20 years in ministry Brian could sense that something needed to change in the way the church related to its congregations and the communities around them when it came to the practice of worship. There had to be more to the way the Church expressed itself besides just chasing Sundays. As Paul, Brian, and their families talked and prayed they knew that they were being called into a new phase of ministry, one that would send them to the fringes of Christianity to encourage and inspire disillusioned leaders and followers to rethink what it means for the Body of Christ to embrace worship and creativity in a post-Evangelical world.

With the help of a new board of directors and key advisors, Torn Curtain Arts relaunched in 2018 with a new mission to strengthen the creative soul of Denver worship leaders. Their passion is to help churches protect one of their most valuable assets: creative leaders and artists. As they look to the future, they move forward with tremendous hope for the local church, working to breathe new creative life into the hearts of worship leaders and churches.
